72 TV series reached Netflix Top 10 in India this summer. Here are the 10 shows that stayed at the top for the longest period of time:
Wednesday - Season 1 (US) - 28 weeks in the top 10 in 2023

Stranger Things 4 (US) - 21 weeks in the Top 10

My insights:
American shows represent 40% of the total number of TV series that reached Netflix Top 10 in India this year.
Close to 30% of the most watched TV series come from Asia; South Korea (21%), and Japan (9%).
US and South Korea together make up an overwhelming 61% of the total TV series that made it to Netflix India’s Top 10!
8 TV shows (out of 72) from India made it to the Top 10 in 2023: Tooth Pari: When Love Bites: Season 1, Rana Naidu: Season 1, Scoop: Season 1, Social Currency Season 1, Kohrra: Season 1, CAT: Season 1, The Hunt for Veerappan: Season 1, &

Genres of the Most Watched TV Series on Netflix India
My insights:
Action, Crime, Comedy and Drama represent approximately 57% of the total genres coming from the most watched TV series in India ~ 23% is Drama alone.
Horror, History, Game-Show, Sci-Fi and Biography are still underrepresented genres on Netflix India.
Romance (8%), Adventure (7%) and Fantasy (6%) are the other important genres in India - something that content creators should consider while pitching to Netflix.
Original Audio Languages of the Most Watched TV Series on Netflix India
My insights:
The 72 TV series that reached Netflix Top 10 in India this year are available in 9 audio original languages: English, Korean, Hindi, Japanese, Norwegian, Spanish, German, Tamil and Kannada.
Interesting to see that Japanese and Hindi are equally popular on the most popular audio languages list for the Top 10 on Netflix India.
The big opportunity is for Indian regional language TV shows to grow and capture market share - Kannada and Tamil got a leg up thanks to the The Hunt for Veerappan series - we need to see more of this happening, similar to the movie space (which is increasingly being dominated by regional languages)!
